Brooklyn based Sutherland’s second show at Edel Assanti continues his exploration of unusual materials and techniques to produce large format ‘paintings’. In his latest show Sutherland’s stitched canvases transcend the digital / analogue divide with stunning effect, cutting up geometric painted canvas which are then reconstructing creating a glitch in the surface, these works reveal more subtleties under closer inspection.

Edel Assanti is pleased to present Andrew Sutherland's second solo exhibition at the gallery. Sutherland's work excavates all manner of compositional form. Mining an endless variety of sources, he discards, distorts, presents and manipulates, offering a combination of form and latent content. His continuously shifting plethora of found sensory stimuli initiates an inquiry into where our interest in and understanding of form resides, and from where it originates.

Sutherland graduated from Fort Lewis College, Durango, Colorado in 2000. Recent solo and two-person exhibitions include Mallorca Landings, Spain (2015); The Gold Standard, Edel Assanti, London (2014); The Armory Show, NY, Edel Assanti booth with Alex Hoda (2014) and Extreme Terrain at Bill Brady, Kansas City, Missouri (2013). Recent group exhibitions include Art Rotterdam, Edel Assanti booth (2014); Xstraction, The Hole, NY (2013) and Interrupt, Michael Kohn, LA (2012).

Sutherland lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
