Jeroen Heeman, better known as Erosie, is a multi-talented artist who combines the disciplines of graffiti, conceptual art, illustration and typography. Painting in his work highlights the attraction for the transformation of the urban landscape.

The decayed textures of the walls , vandalised and renovated, are sources of inspiration. Layer after layer on the canvas, picto-rial writings let us perceive the geology of the work. Successive layers with faded colours illustrate time. At distance, a geome-tric shape distinguishes itself from the background and signs its composition. It evokes a letter from a mysterious alphabet or perhaps a drawing of an architectural plan.

As explained by Erosie in his introductory note for the ‘Derive’ exhibition, the creative process precedes an aesthetic. The se-rendipity, in other words the discovery by accident and clairvoyance of things that were not the subject of the experiment, result in a new painting. He creates accidents in order to exploit new ways and arrives at an unexpected composition.
Ultimately, the conceptual logic behind each mural, graffiti or studio work of Jeroen Erosie, is poetic and has only one goal: the pictorial pleasure.
