A video tribute by Annie Terrazzo

"I was fortunate to know Sue Upton for over ten years. She was a constant inspiration and motivator in my life and work, and I will never forget the day I spent with her making this mini-doc. We had the best time together, wandering around Hamilton, Ontario, and in her studio. We finished up the day drinking champagne and trying on wigs from the touring production of Cats (which she had in her basement). Sue was a gift to all who knew her and I am deeply saddened by the loss of my dear friend.

Sue Upton began her art career in Ottawa, Ontario. After several successful solo exhibitions in the mid 1980’s, Upton turned her skills into a highly successful career as a makeup designer for film and television. Notable clients included former Prime Ministers Brian Mulroney and Kim Campbell, Holly Cole, Alanis Morissette, Sass Jordan, Divine Brown, The Spice Girls, Garth Drabinsky, Martin Short, and Metallica. Upton also established herself as a portrait artist, painting dynamic characters that provoke and confront the viewer.

Upton passed away December 13th, after a long battle with cancer.
